Artists
Indiana for Modern is a loose association of artists that work on their own, as well as contributing their ideas, expertise and talents to creating unique work exclusively for Indiana for Modern.
Joel Fremion – Growing up in his grandparents upholstery/fabric shop and being the son of an interior designer, Joel’s early college education centered around architectural and interior design. As he explored the fine arts, particularly painting, he eventually created his own technique of “fabric collage”. This very tactile artwork is an intricate blend of fabric and leather to create collages that are then further enhanced with painted details. The result is remarkably detailed images that startle the eye and intrigue the mind.
Bill Lupkin – Total design, fabrication, and installation of leaded stained glass and mosaics; as well as restoration for religious, commercial, and residential applications. Experienced in all areas of the stained glass industry including fully painted stained glass and leaded art glass. All works, whether new or restorations, are custom designed to the clients' needs and individual tastes.
It is the special magic of stained glass that light, which merely falls on the surface of other media, is instead infused throughout to transform common daylight into a work of beauty. Truly, stained glass can excite the soul with feelings of reverence and adoration. This is especially prevalent in religious works, which make up the majority of what is handled at William Lupkin Designs of Fort Wayne, Indiana. In this age, where craftsmen are becoming ever more rare, William Lupkin retains and adheres to the philosophy that the quality of the work comes first.
Raymond New – Woodworker, furniture maker, frame maker, and screen printer: Raymond has expertise in both the design and construction of fine furniture and other wood projects for both residential and commercial applications. Born in Scotland into a family of shipwrights, Raymond has a family heritage in woodworking. He is experienced in creating one of a kind projects that are both visually beautiful, as well as fully functional to fill your specific needs. While most of his projects are custom designed to each clients' specific needs and tastes, a selection of the Dunbar furniture designs are ready to be seen and purchased in the Indiana for Modern showroom and select galleries around the United States. Be sure to call ahead if you are interested in a showroom appointment.
Richard Tuck – Richard attended the Fort Wayne Art Institute graduating with a Certificate in Sculpture in 1970. His work is not a reflection of current trends or the angst found in art publications. Rather it comes from an internal spiritual source that strives to provide an experience of timeless beauty. Rather than depicting events, Richard tries to reawaken perception; to restore the magic, to create works that mediate between humans, nature, and the cosmos. He believes art should reach back to its great humane values; to its meditations on the human spirit, and integrate them with the global culture. Richard draws from his imagination as well as the history of ceramics, sculpture, and painting for his works. Tuck’s work process is to constantly go back to a subject, alter the form, and develop it further. A long time may elapse before ideas take shape, and then they may occupy him for years.
Rich Hersha – Breaking out of the bounds of the architectural ordinary Rich attempts to create works of beauty working with, not against, nature. His designs have received"First Place" and "People's Choice" Awards in Parade-of-Homes competitions. Architectural Digest has followed two custom homes from design to completion. National Builder magazine featured one of his homes on its cover in 1972 and in 1984 gave Rich the "centerfold" feature. He has designed custom homes in 19 states; three exceed 20,000 square feet and two designs at under 1000 square feet each were built by Habitat for Humanity.
